A Carriage Sale in 1905

Here's a beautiful shot of J.V. & C. Randall’s Spring carriage and wagon sale of 1905, taken from the roof of their carriage factory (156 N. State St).  The building in the bottom-right corner was the photography studio of Willie Randall, which stood on the corner of N. State St and Jefferson.  F.B. Wentworth’s General Store was housed in the building currently occupied by the Guru's.

Randall Carriage Sale 1905

The annual sales were big events each spring, drawing many citizens who were curious about new developments in transportation.  Today, the view is much different.  Note how the land West of Newtown Creek was graded several feet lower, and unfortunately the windmill is long gone.  The area in the background, then farmland, is now home to shopping centers.  The recently-built retail and apartment complex stands directly across the street from Wentworth’s store, which used to have quite the view from its front porch.
