A Hidden Cane

Years ago I was poking around in the basement of what used to be the courthouse in Newtown looking for anything previous owners may have left behind. I asked an antiques dealer friend about it, and he sent it off to someone in London. Their opinion is that it's probably late 19th century, Irish or Scottish. In the late 1800s an Irish blacksmith named James Moore lived at the property. I like to think that it was his cane.
